Rouyn Noranda, October 23, 2017 – At the Xplor 2017 convention presented October 17 to 19, the Quebec Mineral Exploration Association (QMEA) held its annual Recognition Awards Gala. QMEA also presents the members of the 2017-2018 board of directors.

Looks like the mining industry is making a comeback: 1000 visitors attended the convention and 110 exhibitors were on hand. Thank you to honorary chair Ammar Al-Joundi (Agnico Eagle).

The various categories of distinctions recognize the excellence, initiative, and entrepreneurship of companies and individuals involved in the development of Quebec’s mineral exploration industry. QMEA is proud to present the 2017 award winners!

Discovery of the Year

  • Osisko Mining for the Lynx Deposit project—This award recognizes the importance of a recent discovery that has had a significant ripple effect on exploration activities on the property itself and/or in the surrounding area.

Entrepreneur of the Year

  • Nemaska Lithium—This award credits the work of an entrepreneur (or a team of entrepreneurs) whose company has made significant progress over the past year, in terms of the development of a specific project or the company’s overall business.

Service Company of the Year

  • Abitibi Geophysics—This award recognizes the work of a service company that, by developing or expanding its services, has significantly contributed to the development of mineral exploration in Quebec or elsewhere.

Excellence in Sustainable Development

  • Goldcorp Inc. Éléonore—This award is presented to a company in recognition of its high sustainable development standards.

Nicolas-Denys Medal

  • Jean Laforestë—This award recognizes the career of a prospector whose many years of hard work have significantly contributed to the development of prospecting and mineral exploration in Quebec.

2017 Hector-Authier Award

  • Paul Archer—This award recognizes the career of an individual whose many years of hard work have significantly contributed to the development of mining entrepreneurship in Quebec.

Jean-Descarreaux Award

  • Sylvain Trépanier—This award highlights the work of an individual whose writings have helped broaden geoscience knowledge related to mineral exploration, thereby boosting exploration activities.

Leadership in Economic Contribution to Mineral Exploration Award

  • André Gaumond—This award is given to an individual or an organization in the business, finance, and/or legal sector that has made a significant contribution to the mineral exploration industry.

Organized by the QMEA, Xplor brings together more than 1,000 participants annually: investors, entrepreneurs, prospectors, engineers, geologists and service providers.
