Rayco Manufacturing is breaking ground in the mining industry with machines traditionally used in forestry. Rayco’s RH1754 compact horizontal grinder offers a convenient and portable solution to on-site wood waste that is within reach of small-scale operators.

“It allows small-scale grinding projects to be economically viable,” said J.R. Bowling, Rayco’s vice-president. “Its compact size and weight make it easy to move from job to job and it can be operated on sites inaccessible to larger machines.”

The horizontal grinder runs on a John Deere 140 HP turbo diesel engine that meets Tier 3 emission standards. A reversing fan on the engine radiator automatically clears debris from the screen when the unit is operating. Changing screens takes minutes, allowing a diverse end product.

The unit is highly productive and capable of grinding a wide variety of wood waste materials including tree limbs and brush, dimensional lumber scraps, pallets and light construction debris.

A magnetic head pulley on the 104-inch-high discharge conveyor separates metal materials from the ground product. It is also used for regrinding wood chips.

“At a fraction of the owning and operating costs of larger machines, it offers an economical solution for material reduction while lowering dumping costs and creating a saleable, high-quality mulch,” said Bowling.
