As part of the B.C. Jobs Plan, the B.C. government’s goal is to open eight new mines and expand nine others by 2015.

On May 18, 2012, the fifth new mine was issued a Mines Act permit. That mine is Treasure Mountain silver mine, located near Hope, B.C., and owned by Huldra Silver Inc.

The capital cost of the new project is estimated at $12 million and it will provide 25 full-time jobs.

The ore from the silver mine will be processed at Craigmont Mine, which was forced to reduce its operations in 1984, hitting the nearby community of Merritt especially hard.

The Craigmont Mine will be issued a permit amendment and 10 jobs will also be created in the Merritt area.

The Treasure Mountain mine is expected to yield 60,000 tonnes per year from the underground silver/lead/zinc mining operation.
