TNDC is pleased to announce the Red Chris Tailings Impoundment Area (TIA) construction agreement has been renewed for three construction seasons, through to December 31, 2020.
During the 2018 construction season from March to October, there will be approximately 40 to 60 TNDC construction employees working at Red Chris on TIA construction and road maintenance. This is in addition to TNDC's personnel at Dease Lake and Spatsizi Remote Services (SRS) personnel who work in camp catering and housekeeping at Red Chris and other sites.
Following conclusion of the contract renewal, TNDC acquired new equipment - a Caterpillar CAT 349F hydraulic excavator and two Caterpillar 745C 45 tonne rock trucks. These three (3) new units have been operating at the Red Chris Mine since May 2018. An additional seven (7) new heavy equipment units have since been ordered, which will arrive on site at Red Chris during the summer. In conjunction with the acquisition of new equipment, TNDC is disposing of units which are no longer economical to maintain and operate.
"The Red Chris TIA is TNDC's largest construction contract, employing up to 40% of our workforce during the summer construction season. Extending the contract for three years contributes to TNDC's bottom-line and provides meaningful employment for Tahltans, while ensuring that TNDC continues its relationship with Red Chris as a long-term contractor," says Peter Arendt, CEO of TNDC.
