Canada 2075: Welcome to the Future (It’s Big, It’s Bold, It’s Ridiculously Canadian)
The M&E Dispatch // 064
Hello Everyone,
Hot off a weekend spent building fences and painfully reminded while digging post holes that I'm no longer the 19-year-old floorhand effortlessly tripping pipe, snapping rods, it struck me there are some thought experiments we need to partake in.
Imagine a Canada so bold, so outrageously optimistic, that it decides to flex its polite muscles and become the world's next great powerhouse…
Welcome to "Canada Works," the government's latest and greatest announcement-a dazzling plan for turning the Great White North into the Great Global Powerhouse by 2075. Here’s how it looks:
1. Pipelines for everyone
Forget cautious optimism-Canada’s future runs through pipes. Massive energy corridors crisscross the nation, stretching coast-to-coast and beyond, pumping not just oil and gas but dreams of unlimited prosperity. Sure, we argued about pipelines for decades, but now they’re painted red-and-white, wrapped in plaid printed insulation, and celebrated with a national Stat holiday. That should appease most opponents, put that day in the middle of a summer work week and everyone will be happy.
2. Northern Exposure: The Arctic Megacity
Taking cues from China’s ghost cities we’re building futuristic concrete wonders in the Arctic ready for an influx in population decades from now. These brand-new northern megacities, named places like "True Northopolis" and "Frostbite Falls," offer prime real estate opportunities. Heated sidewalks, polar-bear-proof garbage bins, and Tim Hortons on every icy corner? Check, check, and double-double check.
3. Defence Done Right: Made in Canada, Eh?
"Peacekeeping? That’s adorable," future Canadians say with a wink. Canada’s pivoted from polite peacekeepers to polite powerhouse defence manufacturers. Tanks, jets, ships, and drones-all proudly stamped "Made in Canada"-keep the peace, politely but firmly, around the globe. We've even got stealth jets with a "sorry, not sorry" invisibility feature (patent pending).
4. Energy Independence (and a Bit Extra for Friends)
Canada Works boldly declares energy independence-100% Canadian-made and sustainably sourced. Hydropower, wind turbines, solar panels, and yes, still proudly pumping oil (but politely offset with a robust tree-planting spree). Export surplus? Absolutely, and it’s branded with maple leaves to remind the world who’s keeping their lights on.
5. The Maple Leaf Corridor
Railways and highways are so yesterday. Welcome to high-speed maglev trains racing coast-to-coast, with stops at every major hockey arena (I mean city of course) with local spurs like the C-Train to nearby ski resort, and poutine stand along the way. The Maple Leaf Corridor is fast, efficient, and powered entirely by Canadian pride (and possibly hydrogen).
6. Mining for the Future
Critical minerals, EV metals, lithium-Canada’s sitting on a literal goldmine. State-of-the-art extraction techniques meet stringent eco-friendly standards (no polar bears harmed, promise!). We're talking batteries made in "Electroville, Manitoba," powering not just Canada but the world.
Why All This Matters
"Canada Works" isn’t just infrastructure-it's infrastructure with heart. It’s Canada embracing its potential: prosperous, powerful, and profoundly polite. By 2075, when the rest of the world asks, "How’d they do it?" Canada will smile, shrug modestly, and say, "We just got to work."
Canada Works 2075 is attainable, if we’d just stop bickering and get at it. I can’t wait for this election to be over so we can get back to actually doing something as a nation….
