Rio Tinto is a leading international mining group. The company concentrates on the development of first-class ore bodies into large, long-life and efficient operations, capable of sustaining competitive advantage through business cycles. It is a world leader in finding, mining and processing the earth's mineral resources.
Now Rio Tinto would like to continue to embrace change, innovation and technology by planning a new magazine to reflect the company's development. The magazine, Mines to Markets, will cover Rio Tinto's activities such as exploration, development and operation of mines and the delivery of products to its customers.
"Mines to Markets will help us demonstrate how our commercial imperative is aligned to our respect for the peoples who host our operations and our stewardship of land, air and water," said editor Henry Harington. "In Mines to Markets we will show how we further our reputation for having a minimal effect on the environment, (and) for protecting biodiversity, combating climate change and running the company with good governance and transparency."
According to Rio Tinto, the company is pushing the boundaries of geography, the margins of geology and the frontiers of technology to meet the seemingly inexorable demand for what it produces as the world’s population grows, urbanizes and industrializes.
"If we are to gain access to the resources to meet that demand, governments must see us as the developer of choice," said Harington. "We need to show them that our vision of sustainable development can bring prosperity to their communities and that we will leave legacies of social and economic development and regeneration when the mining is done."
Mines to Markets will start publication later in 2012.
