SGS, a world leader in inspection verification, testing and certification, has opened a new fully equipped, commercial geochemistry laboratory in Cochrane, Ontario. SGS operates a network of over 1,350 offices and laboratories around the world with more than 70,000 employees. The new lab in Cochrane has been strategically located to service the minerals exploration industry in northeastern Ontario and northwestern Quebec.
The Cochrane laboratory offers the following geochemical procedures:
- Preparation for soils, drill-core and reverse-circulation samples;
- Fire assay for gold with ICP-OES, AAS and gravimetric finish;
- Carbon and sulphur analysis by LECO and Coulometry; and
- Trace metal analysis by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES).
The new lab will also function as a gateway to SGS's industry-leading sampling, resource assessment, geometallurgy and metallurgical capabilities. SGS also offers a wide range of services to the minerals sector, including geochemical analysis, resource calculations, mineralogy, metallurgy, advanced systems, water treatment and trade services.
The laboratory held its official opening on September 25, 2012.
