On Thursday, January 15, 2015, the Association for Mineral Exploration British Columbia (AME BC) and B.C. Minister of Energy and Mines Bill Bennett opened the Toronto Stock Exchange. The opening was part of the association’s fourth annual trade mission to Toronto.

“Mineral explorers and developers based in B.C. are known for their resilience, innovation and optimism,” said AME BC president and CEO Gavin Dirom.

Dirom said that in the lead-up to AME BC’s Mineral Exploration Roundup 2015 conference (January 26 to 29 at the Vancouver Convention Centre East), the organization is “getting the word out that B.C. is open for business and well positioned for the next upturn in the minerals cycle.”

Of the mineral exploration and mining companies listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange, 58 per cent are headquartered in British Columbia. That is 865 out of 1,492 companies.

A total of 17 people from a number of B.C.-based organizations took part in the mission. In addition to AME BC, they included the B.C. Ministry of Energy and Mines, BC Geoscience, the Mining Association of BC, Ernst and Young and JDS Copper Ltd.
